Bio Attack Risk Report

This bi-weekly Bio Attack Risk Report brings politicians, government agency heads, and
business executives (including leaders of not-for-profit enterprises) up to date on significant
news regarding the risks associated with bio attacks at all levels of society, from enterprises to regions to nations to international (pandemics), and whether nature-made or human-
manufactured.
Emerging Virus Trends
As an indicator of rising risk of Coronavirus, in mid-July 2024, its activity in wastewater reached “high” and “very high” levels in 26 states, according to data released by the Center for Disease
Control (CDC). Other rising metrics include the prevalence of Covid diagnoses in hospital
emergency rooms and the rate of positive tests processed at labs.
On July 24, 2024, the White House announced that President Joe Biden had tested positive for COVID-19. Following a period of isolation, he was expected to return to work a week later.
With the West Nile virus, the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the United States, as of July 10, more than a third of the states have confirmed instances of such cases.
In early July 2024, the U.S. Government provided Moderna Inc. nearly $200 million to hasten
development of an mRNA vaccine for pandemic influenza. This was in response to a lethal strain of bird flu spreading through the country’s dairy farms, heightening concern about a potential public health crisis.
As approved by the FDA, on June 27, 2024, the CDC Director adopted the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations for use of 2024–2025 new variant COVID-19 vaccines in people ages 6 months and older. The new vaccines are expected to be available in fall 2024.
